Adenium arabicum 'Suranya' — Dorset Horn DHA Crimson-Bloom Dwarf Seeds

Suranya (also seen as Saranya) is one of the most celebrated DHA (Dorset Horn Adenium) cultivar lines in Thai show-bench culture — prized for extreme, tightly rolled sheep-horn leaf mutation combined with hyper-compressed internodes and a stout, powerful caudex. Unlike many DHA lines that sacrifice visual vigor for compactness, Suranya delivers both, and it finishes the package with deep crimson to red flowers against a high-contrast pale throat.
FULL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Adenium arabicum 'Suranya' is an elite DHA line stabilized for extreme dwarf characteristics without sacrificing the visual presence that makes show-bench specimens worth exhibiting.
The Signature DHA Leaf Roll
The primary hallmark is the foliage. Leaves exhibit extreme downward curling along the margins, rolling inward to mimic the shape of a Dorset sheep's horn — thick, deeply textured, highly glossy, and rich emerald green. The roll is not subtle; this is one of the most visually distinctive leaf mutations in the arabicum DHA world.
Hyper-Compact Internodes
Suranya suppresses vertical branch extension completely. The distance between leaf nodes is microscopic — branches stay short, thick, and stubby, naturally forming a dense, compact ball or "broccoli-style" canopy over the caudex without regular pruning or structural wiring.
Caudex Mechanics
A stout, thick, spherical or teardrop-shaped caudex that expands laterally faster than it grows vertically — delivering powerful visual mass even at small scale. True dwarf mutation mechanics built into the base from the earliest stages of development.
The Bloom Profile
Unlike the standard wild-type pale pink star blooms of most arabicum lines, premium Suranya selections produce deep, rich red to crimson flowers with a high-contrast white or pale throat. The flowers open fully and sit tightly nestled against the rolled foliage — the combination of dark crimson blooms emerging from tightly curled emerald leaves is genuinely striking.
Zone 6 Notes
The sheep-horn curl of the foliage and the hyper-compressed internode spacing both depend entirely on maximum UV intensity — low light flattens the curl and stretches the branches simultaneously, which dismantles both defining traits in a single bad season. I keep Suranya in raw, unfiltered full sun outside after May 15 with no shade cloth and no UV-filtering glass. The micro-root system of extreme DHA dwarf lines has almost zero tolerance for retained moisture — I run 85–90% inorganic (premium pumice, black lava rock, coarse perlite or hard-fired clay) and water conservatively even during peak growing season. When active center growth slows or foliage begins to drop, irrigation stops completely — dormancy onset on a DHA line with stagnant moisture in the root zone is a fast path to fatal base rot. Indoors well before first hard frost in mid-October, dry and cool until active spring growth resumes.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
- Fresh Adenium arabicum 'Suranya' seeds (select quantity above)
- Germination instructions included with every order
GROWING BASICS
- Germination temp: 85–95°F
- Germination time: 5–14 days under ideal conditions
- Hardiness: Bring indoors before nighttime temps reach 50°F
- Light: Raw unfiltered full sun or high-output full-spectrum LED — DHA leaf curl and internode compression both flatten out under low light
- Media: 85–90% inorganic (premium pumice, black lava rock, coarse perlite or hard-fired clay) — micro-root system is highly rot-sensitive
- Watering: Conservative even in peak season — low overwatering tolerance, especially as temperatures drop
- Dormancy: Sharp seasonal dormancy — cease irrigation entirely when active center growth slows or foliage drops
- Bloom: Deep crimson to red flowers with high-contrast pale throat — atypical for standard arabicum lines
- Skill level: Advanced — DHA mutation mechanics require precise light, watering, and dormancy management
