The Flower
Blooms measure approximately 3 to 3.5 inches across with broad, slightly overlapping petals carrying a subtle curl or roll at the edges — a petal form that amplifies the visual impression of a vortex in motion. Deep maroon, intense purple-red, and near-black streaks and splatters sweep across the yellow-gold-pink base in a pattern that is never perfectly identical between blooms.

In Zone 6, Plumeria enters dormancy when temperatures drop — leaves drop, growth stops, and watering needs to cease almost completely through winter. I store mine dry, in a frost-free space with minimal light, and do not resume watering until active growth pushes from the branch tips in late March or April. Substrate is the same philosophy as my Adenium line — gritty, exceptionally well-draining, heavy on coarse pumice and perlite. Root rot is the primary failure mode in container Plumeria; the right substrate eliminates most of that risk. Full sun, 6–8 hours minimum, is non-negotiable for triggering maximum bloom production and the intense dark pigmentation that makes this cultivar worth growing.
