'Sanibel' is one of the warmest, most tropical color blends in the collection — soft peach and yellow-gold at the throat and centers, fading out into bright coral-pink and dark rose along the petal margins. It's a genuine sunset gradient on a single bloom, and it's the variety I point toward when someone wants warmth and depth without going as dark as some of the plum or crimson cultivars.
What makes it worth growing:
- Soft peach and yellow-gold throat blending into coral-pink and dark rose margins — a true warm gradient, not a flat color
- Multi-petaled double/triple form with slightly ruffled, rounded petals that give the bloom a rose-like silhouette
- Dark oblanceolate green foliage that sets off the warm tropical tones well
- Standard obesum development as it matures — thick swollen caudex, upright, free-branching growth
Zone 6 growing notes: Same germination protocol I use across the whole obesum seed line here in Northern Kentucky — warm media, consistent moisture through germination, then as much heat and light as you can give it through the growing season to build the caudex and get to first bloom. Gradient varieties like this one show their full color range best under strong light, so give it your brightest window once it's up. I start mine in Desert Oasis Germination Media for the even moisture control in those first few critical weeks.
