Adenium Seed Germination Guide

Seed Preparation & Germination
Success with Adenium seeds begins with proper preparation. Start by soaking your seeds in a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution for 15-20 minutes. This critical first step eliminates bacteria and fungal spores that cause damping-off and seed rot—the leading causes of germination failure.
After the peroxide treatment, rinse seeds thoroughly with clean water, then soak them in room-temperature water for 12-24 hours. Fresh seeds may sprout from a soak of as little as 6-12 hours, while older seeds benefit from the full 24-hour soak to soften the seed coat and trigger germination.
Plant pre-soaked seeds 1/4 inch deep in well-draining media. American Adenium's Desert Oasis Mix provides the ideal balance of moisture retention and drainage that Adenium seeds require. Maintain temperatures between 80-90°F and keep the growing medium consistently moist but never waterlogged.
Germination typically occurs within 3-7 days for fresh seeds, though some varieties may take up to 14 days. Seedlings emerge with two cotyledon leaves and quickly develop their characteristic swollen caudex at the base.
