Adenium obesum 'American Pride' Seeds
'American Pride' is one of the boldest, most patterned cultivars I carry — deep magenta-to-crimson petals heavy with white-to-cream radial streaks and splash variegation, edged in dark charcoal-black shading along the ruffled margins. No two blooms come out quite the same, and that variability in the patterning is part of the draw.
What makes it worth growing:
- Deep magenta-to-crimson base heavy with bold white-cream radial streaks and splash variegation — high-contrast patterning, not a solid color
- Charcoal-black shading around the ruffled, crimped petal margins adds real depth to the edges
- Multi-petaled double/triple layered form with distinctly textured, peony-like appearance
- Rich green foliage that accentuates both the dark red and the stark white variegation
- Standard obesum development as it matures — thick swollen caudex, sturdy upright branching
Zone 6 growing notes: Same protocol I use across the obesum seed line here in Northern Kentucky — warm media, consistent moisture through germination, then strong heat and light through the growing season to build the caudex and push toward first bloom. Variegated, high-pattern varieties like this one need good light to develop crisp, well-defined streaking rather than muddy contrast, so give it your brightest spot once established. I start mine in Desert Oasis Germination Media for the even moisture control in those first few weeks.
