Choco × Super Red targets one of the most striking visual contrasts in the arabicum world: a massive, muscular chocolate-bronze-skinned base exploding with deep crimson-red flowers. Choco brings the rich, matte dark-copper bark and wide squat arabicum bone structure. Super Red brings the heavily saturated, blood-red bloom genetics. Together, the payoff is fiery red flowers against dark chocolate wood — a combination standard arabicum lines simply cannot produce.

FULL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Adenium arabicum 'Choco' × 'Super Red' bridges two top-tier traits that rarely appear together: the moody, dark epidermal aesthetics of the Choco family and the intensely saturated crimson flower genetics of the Super Red line.

The Choco Contribution — Elite Bark & Bonsai Structure
The Choco line is a celebrated Thai arabicum selection known for rich, matte, dark copper-brown to deep chocolate-bronze bark. Beyond skin tone, it brings premium arabicum body mechanics: a wide, squat, heavy-set caudex, powerful lateral root spread (nebari), and excellent natural self-branching with short, thick, horizontal branches.

The Super Red Contribution — True Crimson Flower Genetics
Standard arabicum lines produce pale pink to light fuchsia blooms. Super Red injects heavily saturated, solid crimson-to-blood-red petals into the cross — replacing the standard pale flush with a heavy, fiery canopy.

The "Dark Wood" Silhouette
Structurally, seedlings lean arabicum. Expect low-slung, squat, dome-shaped trunks that naturally branch horizontally. As plants receive direct sun, bark transitions from youthful green into weathered, smoky chocolate-bronze or dark charcoal-purple.

The Floral Contrast
When seedlings hit maturity and bloom, they bypass pale pink entirely — pushing striking, highly saturated deep red or dark crimson blossoms. Brilliant, fiery red flowers against a dark matte-chocolate trunk is the visual goal of this cross, and premium selections deliver it.

Foliage
A fascinating middle ground — fleshier and broader than a slim obesum leaf, carrying the velvety texture of classic arabicum. Under high light, leaf veins and margins flush heavily with dark purple to reddish pigments.

As an interspecific-style hybrid cross grown from seed, expect a natural sliding scale of trait expression across a batch. Premium selections combine the full dark bark and crimson bloom payoff. Others may lean more toward Choco's structural depth or Super Red's flower saturation — both directions produce compelling, collectible plants.

Zone 6 Notes
Both the chocolate bark and the crimson blooms are entirely light-driven — UV exposure controls the Choco skin, and anthocyanin production drives the Super Red flower saturation. Anything less than maximum unfiltered direct sun and both traits stall out, leaving you with a plain dull-green compact plant with pale pink flowers, which is not what you grew this cross for. Outside in full sun after May 15, no shade cloth. I run a heavily inorganic substrate (80–90% premium pumice, black lava rock, coarse perlite) — the Choco-side root structure has almost no tolerance for wet feet. Hard winter dormancy with zero water when foliage drops — dark-skinned hybrids sitting in cold damp media is the fastest path to fatal caudex rot. Indoors before first hard frost in mid-October, dry and cool until active spring growth resumes.
