Plumeria rubra is one of the most satisfying tropical plants you can grow in a container. The flowers are large, fragrant, and produced in clusters through the summer months — and these deep pink/red selections produce color that’s hard to match.
These are unrooted cuttings, 7 inches or longer, sourced from actively growing, healthy stock plants. Each cutting has been pre-calloused before shipping, so you’re not starting from scratch.
The callous is the critical first step in getting a Plumeria cutting to root successfully, and it’s already done for you.
What you’re getting:
∙ One Plumeria rubra cutting, 7”+ in length
∙ Unnamed deep pink/red flowering selection
∙ Pre-calloused end — ready for potting media
∙ True rubra species — not a hybrid or grafted plant
Flower color: Deep pink to red, large petals, classic frangipani fragrance
Getting your cutting started:
Plant your cutting in fast-draining, gritty media. I use a mix with perlite, pumice, and coarse grit — nothing dense or moisture-retentive.
Set the cutting in bright light and hold off on watering for the first 7–10 days after planting. That dry period encourages the roots to develop rather than sitting in moisture with nothing to absorb it.
Warm soil temperatures accelerate rooting significantly. Bottom heat of 80–85°F speeds the process considerably if you’re starting indoors or in early spring.
Cold climate growers: Plumeria rubra is a summer container plant in Zone 6 and colder. Move it outside once nighttime temperatures are consistently above 55°F, and bring it back in before the first frost. With proper overwintering — dry, above 50°F, low light is fine — these plants will perform for years.
Shipping note: Cuttings ship bare, no pot or media included. Orders ship Monday–Wednesday to avoid weekend transit delays.
