Adenium Arabicum 'Dynamo'
A modern Thai line bred for aggressive early self-branching without needing to top the
canopy. It also throws a thick, wide-flaring root flare right at the soil line, which makes it
one of the stronger choices in this release if you're interested in nebari (root-flare)
training from a young seedling instead of waiting years for an older specimen to develop
one naturally.
Growing it in Zone 6b: Germinate in Desert Oasis Germination Media on a heat mat,
same as the rest of the arabicum lines — mid-80s soil temp, expect sprouting within a
week to ten days. Dynamo is one of the more forgiving arabicum genetics I grow; it
doesn't demand the intense light some of the dark-bark lines do, so moderate-to-strong
grow light through the first winter is sufficient.
The root flare is the trait to manage for. Once the seedling has several sets of true
leaves, I do a shallow repot into a wide, shallow container rather than a deep one — this
exposes the developing root flare to light and air earlier, which is what actually
encourages that thick, wide base to form instead of staying buried and cylindrical.
Water normally through active growth. Because self-branching kicks in early with this
line, you'll likely see secondary branches forming in the first year without any pruning
intervention — let it happen naturally through year one before you start shaping.
Cheers,
Michael
